The Country Director of Stakeholders Democracy Network, Florence Ibok, decried the process of international oil companies divesting from onshore assets in the Niger Delta without adequately addressing environmental pollution in the region.
Ibok also said that the National Assembly should create laws that will ensure responsible exit of international oil companies.
Earlier, an international researcher, Rick Steiner, said Federal government should follow laid-down principles in divesting, decommissioning, and abandoning of oil assets and liability in the Niger Delta.
Today FM’S Preye Izogu reports that several civil societies proposed principles to guide the divestment of international oil companies who wish to exit the Niger Delta.
