Covid-19: Governor Ortom to shut down markets in Benue state

 

ORTOM also hinted of a possibility of closing roads linking Benue and other states in the days to come.

 

 

 

ORTOM who was reacting to a confirmed case of corona virus in the state said the plan is part of proactive measures to prevent the spread of the decease in the state.

 

 

 

He said the patient, Susan Okpe who tested positive of corona virus is a returning traveler from UK and that her blood sample was taken to Abuja alongside others who tested negative at the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

 

 

 

The Benue State Governor while advising against stigmatization,noted that about eight contacts were being observed, adding that staff of the facility where the patient went for medical attention would also be isolated and monitored for the required number of days.

 

 

 

Ortom further maintained that shops and medical stores would be open to the public with hand sanitisers placed at strategic entry points to the shops for use by customers just as he reiterated the ban on social gatherings such as funerals, weddings, Church as well as Mosque activities.
