Court fixes 8th March for hearing off Kidnap case and murder of Chief Weli.

ANDY CLEMENT, GODFREY HANSON. ROWLAND AZUNDA, CHIMA WOKOMA and OGECHI IHUNWO are standing trial on two counts of kidnapping and murder over the death of Chief WELI.

They are alleged to have kidnapped and murdered Chief WELI at Okporo community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in 2012 after receiving ten million naira ransom from the family of the deceased.

Justice ENEBELI adjourned the matter after the Prosecution Counsel; IBIKIRI OTORUBIO informed the court that the prosecution witnesses were facing threats to their lives.

This was after one retired Colonel CHINEDU OWHONDA had testified before the court, affirming that his statement to the Department of State Services was based on information he gathered from the community where the kidnapping happened.

OWHONDA also suggested that Chief WELI may have been killed during crossfire between the kidnappers and the police.

In ruling for adjournment of the case; Justice ENEBELI urged the prosecution and the defence counsel to show diligence in the matter, which has been in court for close to four years,

Outside the courtroom, one of the defence lawyers, JOHNSON EJEKWU urged the Prosecution to close the case if there was no more witness to call.
