Contraception day:RSG harps on need to provide range of contraceptive options to individuals

 

Speaking on the occasion of the World Contraception Day, the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Adaeze Oreh assured that the Rivers State Government is committed to providing access to quality information and services in all public health facilities in the state.

 

Doctor Oreh noted that individuals can conveniently access Family Planning services in the twenty-three local government areas of the state, and in the three hundred and thirty-one health facilities in the state.

 

She added that birth control methods range from hormonal options and individuals will be advised on methods that best suit them.

 

The Commissioner said data from the National Demographic Health Survey of 2018 showed that the national figure stands at seventeen percent, while the state prevalence is about nineteen point six percent, stating that there is yet more work to be done. 

 

World Contraception Day is commemorated every 26 September, and the theme for this year is, “The Power of Options,” which places a spotlight on the crucial role of contraceptive choices.
