The United Nations Refugee Agency has warned that the North-East of Nigeria is not yet safe for the return of Internally Displaced Persons.
The regional representatives of the UN Human Rights Commission, LIZ AHUA, made this known in Abuja.
Addressing an audience during the opening ceremony of the Lake Chad Regional Protection Dialogue, AHUA observed that the threat from Boko Haram terrorists still persist in region.
AHUA said the situation remains the same for other countries within the Lake Chad Basin where the Boko Haram insurgency is predominant.
She said the regional meeting was called to adopt a working blueprint on regional protection of the Lake Chad Basin and safe return of displaced persons.
Recall that North East Nigeria has been the boiling and most heated location of the Boko Haram terrorist Incessant attacks since 2009.
Pres Buhari condemns Kano killings as police arrest suspects.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condenmed the killing of a 72 year woman in Kano,He described it as sad and regrettable the developments that led to the killing of Bridget Agbahime, a market woman in Kano who was mobbed because of what seemed Blasphemy.
The President in a statement released by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, , condoled with the husband of the deceased on Saturday, Mike Agbahime, the family and relations, Interceding that God would give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He However lauded the law enforcement agents for arressting the prime suspect behind the griesome killing, as well as the Kano State government, which summoned a meeting of Christian and Islamic leaders, widower of the deceased, and security agencies, as soon as the sad event occurred on Friday.
Pres.Buhari remarked that justice would be done in the situation,he urged the people not to take the law into their hands.
He equally charged those who might want to use the Incident to fan the embers of religious or ethnic hatred to remember that two wrongs would never make a right, and that when law and order breaks down, those who become victims are never distinguished on the basis of religion or ethnicity.
In his words he said
“The incident at Kofar Wambai market, Kano city, is utterly condemn able, and the state government has been quite proactive. Let us ensure that we keep the peace, as justice will be done. Let us learn to respect each others faith, so that we can know each other and live together in peace,” the President said.
