It appears that the PDP leaders have resolved to go ahead with today’s National Convention, despite the sealing of the Sharks Stadium that was initially designated as venue of the conventionOur correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that a combined team of security personnel are keeping watch around Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt.He said the security personnel are drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Service and the Nigerian military services.
Also; Armored Personnel Carriers and patrol trucks are stationed at strategic locations around Port Harcourt Township, particularly on the adjourning roads leading to Sharks Stadium.
All the main roads around the area have been closed to regular traffic, as residents in the area had to trek to their destinations.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, FRANCIS ODESANYA visited the stadium earlier and told newsmen that the police intervention was based on conflicting court orders.
There were speculations that the PDP leaders had resolved to shift the convention venue to the Adokiye Amaesiamaka Stadium within Greater Port Harcourt Area.
But when our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA visited the place around 11.30AM, there was no sign of life around the stadium.
Meanwhile; reports from the PDP State Secretariat on Aba Road in Port Harcourt indicate that the location is wearing the look of a major political event.
Our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA reports that PDP national leaders took turns to address the crowd of party delegates and supporters drawn from across the country.
They also resolved to go ahead with the National Convention, but decided to suspend the aspect on the election of new national officers of the PDP.
Another key decision at the event in Port Harcourt is the renewal of the mandate of the National Caretaker Committee led by AHMED MAKARFI which was meant to expire this weekend.
That decision was adopted based on a motion moved by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, LEO OGOR.
