The directive by the UNIPORT Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities is in line with the one-week warning strike called by the national leadership of ASUU.
The decision was adopted during a meeting of the National Executive Council of ASUU in Abuja last Saturday.
Briefing newsmen at the University of Port Harcourt, the Vice Chairman of ASUU, EZE WOSU, said the strike is to draw the attention of government and members of the public to the frustration university lecturers have been going through.
The ASUU Chairman complained about pending issues in an agreement reached with government in 2009 and a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties in 2013.
EZE WOSU also said the university lecturers are not comfortable with the drop in budgetary allocation to the education sector in the 2016 Budget, from 12 percent in 2014 to 8 percent in 2016.
