Appeal Court nullifies arrest warrant against Amaechi, 2 others

Justice Chinwendu Nwogu had, on the 17th of May, 2023, issued the warrant of arrest against the former Rivers State governor, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Patrick Tonye Cole, a former Commissioner for Energy in the state, Augustine Wokocha, and three others, which was challenged at the Appeal Court.

A three-man panel led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, in a unanimous ruling on the applications, said the High Court of Rivers State was wrong to have proceeded in the matter even when the process was already being challenged at the Appeal Court.

Today FM Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that the panel of the Appeal Court also faulted the process of effecting service on the defendants.

One of the counsels to Rotimi Amaechi and Patrick Tonye-Cole, Achinike Wobodo-Williams in an interview with Today FM correspondent, explained the ruling of the Appeal Court.
