The Rivers State APC rejected the inclusion of retired Justice ICHE NDU and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, OKEY WALI in the committee.
The position of the Rivers APC is based on the purported affiliation between the two individuals and Rivers State Governor, NYESOM WIKE.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, CHRIS FINEBONE, the APC said the inclusion of Justice NDU and OKEY WALI who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria shows unwillingness by the National Judicial Council to sanitise the judiciary.
FINEBONE said the Chairman of the NJC and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice MAHMUD MOHAMMED and other members of the NJC cannot pretend not to know the political leaning of the two nominees.
By the statement; the Rivers APC threatened to mobilize mass protests, including occupying some strategic locations in Port Harcourt and Abuja if the National Judicial Council fails to remove retired Justice ICHE NDU and OKEY WALI from the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics.
You will recall that the Chief Justice of Nigeria had on Monday last week announced the setting up of the Committee during the launch of the new National Judicial Policy in the wake of the arrest of seven suspected corrupt judges.
