Reports say four people were shot dead after the protesters defied a government ban on weekday demonstrations.
The government has also issued a statement confirming the arrest of a popular imam, which sparked violence on Tuesday, leading to the death of two soldiers and two civilians.
The government is accusing Imam DJOBO MOHAMED ALLASSANI, who represents Sokodé, of calling for violence and sedition.
