It was gathered that members of a criminal gang operating from Obiezimini laid ambush on the Amnesty convoy, leading to an exchange of fire with soldiers attached to the team.
The incident was made public following the arrest of one CELESTINE OKPAKA who is alleged to be the second in command of the Icelander cult group at Obiezimini.
OKPAKA and other members of his group are alleged to have carried out the attack on the amnesty officials’ convoy.
Our correspondent reports that CELESTINE OKPAKA was paraded before newsmen and members of the Amnesty Committee at Bori Camp in Port Harcourt.
The suspect was allegedly arrested with an AK-47 rifle following an encounter with troops in a failed operation at Obiegbe community.
The arrest of the suspect happened a day after the Chairman of the Amnesty Programme Committee, KENNETH CHINDA threatened the Obiezimini gang that the wrath of the law would catch up with them.
