ALIYU YAHAYA GUSAU has been appointed as the new Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation.GUSAU moves from his previous position as Director of Fiscal Policy, Budget Monitoring and Evaluation to replace former DG, BRIGHT OKOGU who stepped down after eight years.
The appointment of GUSAU by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI was confirmed in a statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Finance, MARSHAL GUNDU.
President BUHARI has also approved the appointment of WILLIAMS BABATUNDE FOWLER as Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Inland Revenue Service. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, said FOWLER would perform acting role pending his confirmation by the Senate. The new FIRS boss was in charge of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014, where he made a mark by helping to turn around the internally generated revenue fortunes of that state.
The recent appointment of members of the Management Team of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON, may have set the stage for a collision course between President BUHARI and the National Assembly.
It is reported that the law establishing AMCON provides that the Senate confirmation should be sought in such appointment, but did not happen. The President on Tuesday approved the appointment of AHMED LAWAL KURU as Managing Director of AMCON, while KOLA ADEYEYE, EBERECHUKWU UNEZI and AMINU ISMAIL were named as Executive Directors of AMCON.
