Tyson Fury became the new WBC Champion on Saturday night ending Deontay Wilder’s undefeated boxing run at round 7 of their rematch via a TKO.
Fury started of the fight furious, dominating the first three rounds with a knock down on Wilder at round 3.
Wilder managed a coupled of jabs but missed on his right hand toward fury at round 2.
The gypsy king however held on with unrelenting aggression that saw his point docked at round 5. But the lineal Champion was never needing points to defeat Wilder whom he earlier promised to knock out at round 2 during press conference days before the fight.
Afterwards and from round 4, it was an all Fury affair as the 273lbs weight man landed punches on his American opponent, resulting in cuts and bloods on Wilder’s ears and lips.
The turning point of the bout came at round 7. Fury had placed Wilder in an uncharted territory at round 6, punching him from all angles. Still, a tired and old looking Wilder managed to stay firm until round 7.
Nonetheless, this firmness and inner agility wasn’t to continue at round 7. Fury had Wilder straight to his face, a punch that saw him trapped at the corner. It was at this point that team Wilder thought it wise to throw in the towel to prevent further damages to an already battered Wilder.
It took 1:39sec in round 7 for Fury to be crowned the new WBC world heavyweight Champion.
What they said after the bout
Wilder;
“The best man won tonight, but my corner threw in the towel and I was ready to go out on my shield. I had a lot of things going on heading into this fight. It is what it is, but I make no excuses tonight. I just wish my corner would have let me go out on my shield. I’m a warrior. He had a great performance and we will be back stronger. Even the greatest have lost and came back, that is just part of it. I can make no excuses tonight. I had a lot of complications. But we’ll come back stronger next time around. This is what big-time boxing is all about, the best must fight the best. I appreciate all the fans that came out and supported the show, and I hope that everyone gets home safely.”
Fury; “Thank you to my lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
I told everyone the Gypsy King has returned to his throne.
Last fight I was under weight and over trained. This time, how about pillow fists eh?
I told Deontay I am going for a knock out. Everyone said ‘oh stick to your boxing’.
I was knocking a 250 bag off his hooks every day, not padding around.
Deontay is a hell of performer, dynamite in his fists and he will always be dangerous.
People look at my fat belly and my bald head and they think I cannot fight.
I had my mental problems and issues and I was out of the ring three years. But he was fighting the real Gypsy King this time.
I expect he will want a rematch and I will have that. Great fights should have trilogies. And I want it here, just across the road, at the Raiders Stadium outdoors in front of 70,000″.
