Africa Leads from Behind in Ranking of Continents that Least Support Girls Education

According to a report to celebrate the United Nations Day of the Girl Child, South Sudan topped the chart, having faced much violence and war, with the destruction of schools and families forced from their homes.
It also disclosed that almost three-quarters of girls in the world’s newest country do not even make it to primary school.
Others in the same category are Central African Republic, where statistics shows one teacher for every eighty pupils; and Niger where only seventeen of women between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four are literate.
In Chad, the report indicates that many social and economic barriers are stopping girls and women from getting education; and in Mali, only thirty-eight percent of girls are able to finish primary school.
Guinea, Burkina Faso, Liberia: and Ethiopia are also in the top ten, in addition to Afghanistan, which is outside Africa, and has a record of wide gender gap, with boys more likely to be in school than girls.
