The Nigerian Immigration Service has formally withdrawn diplomatic and official passports from individuals who are no longer entitled to such privilege. Those affected include former state governors, former members of the National Assembly, former members of state houses of assembly, commissioner, as well as special advisers and assistants. Former ministers are also included, as well as former local government chairmen and deputy chairmen, in addition to retired heads of parastatals, and all other categories of retired public servants. The Nigerian Immigration Service has therefore directed all persons that fall under the grouping to return such passports to its headquarters in Abuja with immediate effect. The commission warned that failure to comply with the directive would amount to an offence under the Immigration Act of 2015.
