The Students Union Government of the University of Port Harcourt are demanding the establishment of an emergency centre at the Teaching Hospital. Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent, the UNIPORT SUG President, ENDWELL CHUKWU said the students demand the management to redefine the relationship with the UPTH. The SUG President also said there were various accounts surrounding the response of the healthcare workers to the deceased when she was rushed to the UPTH. In a related development; the Trade Union Congress in Rivers State has strongly condemned the death of a female student of the University of Port Harcourt who was allegedly denied treatment at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. State Chairman of the TUC, CHIKA ONUEGBU told correspondent JUDITH OKAFOR in an interview that it was unfortunate for trained healthcare workers to have ignored a student who was brought to the emergency ward. ONUEGBU called on the management of the UPTH and the Federal Government to carry out a thorough investigation in order to find a permanent solution to prevent a repeat of such incident. CHIKA ONUEGBU is the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Rivers State.
