The management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has condemned the disruption of activities at the institution on Monday by protesting students of the University of Port Harcourt. The hospital management lamented that the violence by the students caused members of staff to abandon their duty, forcing patients to seek alternative care outside the facility. The Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Professor AARON OJULE made the statement after a joint meeting with authorities of the University of Port Harcourt; representatives of the Student union Government and security agencies. Professor OJULE noted that the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident are under investigation, stressing that any member of staff found wanting would face disciplinary action. Professor OJULE sympathized with the family of the decease student, which sparked the protest, and also appealed to other students to stop further actions that could threaten operations at the UPTH.
Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the authorities of University of Port Harcourt have resolved to bury the remains of the two hundred level student who allegedly died after she was denied treatment at the UPTH.
