A statement from the Office of the Vice President disclosed that the contract for the projects dates back to the previous PDP Administration under former President GOODLUCK JONATHAN.
According to the statement signed by the spokesman for the Vice President, LAOLU AKANDE, the project was not included in either the 2016 or 2017 budgets of the current administration.
The statement noted that the project, including the controversial multimillion naira gatehouse, was started in 2010, and had never featured in the two budget proposals of the Buhari Administration.
Based on the foregoing; the statement noted that any suggestion that the project benefits the current administration or that it reflects its spending style or preferences was not only misleading but blatantly false.
LAOLU AKANDE emphasized that the incumbent Vice President, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO, had said publicly that he considered his current official residence at the Aguda House as befitting and sufficient for his needs.
AKANDE also said the Federal Government would decide at the appropriate time the best use for the fourteen buildings already on the project site, which he said was about eighty-five percent completed.
