The two sides laying claims to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State are unwilling to shift grounds in a bid to present a common front for workers. BEATRICE ITUBO who prides herself as the State Chairman of the NLC and WILLIAMS ADAH who leads the rival faction of the NLC are now hoping that the reconciliatory move initiated at the national level of the labour movement would trickle down to Rivers State. Both ITUBO and ADAH insist that the NLC factions they led enjoy the most support of affiliate unions, but ITUBO said proper verification with the relevant authorities would show who has the most support. BEATRICE ITUBO and WILLIAMS ADAH also claim recognition of national factions of the Nigeria Labour Congress. ITUBO is aligned with the AYUBA WABA led group of the Nigeria Labour Congress at the national level, while WILLIAMS ADAH is of the JOE AJAERO faction of the NLC. ITUBO supported her claim with her engagements with labour activities at the national level as well as the success of the May Day celebration in Abuja by the AYUBA WABA-led NLC.

On his part; ADAH buttressed the recognition of his NLC faction under the national leadership of JOE AJAERO following the conduct of its National Executive Committee meeting in Port Harcourt last month. BEATRICE ITUBO and WILLIAMS ADAH were responding to questions on Today’s Quest; a live interview and phone-in programme on this station.

ITUBO said the NLC in Rivers State has not lost focus, but is facing the challenge of those he described as self-serving individuals.
