State Chairman of PDP, FELIX OBUAH, said it was the height of injustice and selective prosecution for the Police High Command to dismiss the six officers attached to Governor WIKE.
In a statement released by his media assistant; OBUAH said the humiliation of the six policemen on national television indicates that the police authorities acted in favour of the All Progressives Congress.
He said it was an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians for the Inspector-General of Police to claim that the dismissed policemen were engaged in professional misconduct.
The Rivers PDP Chairman challenged the Inspector-General of Police to explain to Nigerians the role played by other security operatives who were attached to APC chieftains during the rerun elections on 10th December.
You will recall that the Police High Command disclosed at a media briefing in Abuja addressed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DON AWUNAH, that the six dismissed policemen were found to have misused the firearms in their possession contrary to the provisions of Force Order 237.
DON AWUNAH said the Police personnel committed the infringement while attached to the convoy of Governor WIKE on the day of election.
AWUNAH said the service personnel became overzealous, took laws into their hands and opened fire, causing panic in the crowd.
The Force spokesman further said all six dismissed policemen joined in storming the Port Harcourt City Council Secretariat and prevented the movement of election results from Emohua polling units to the appropriate collation centre designated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Police High Command maintained that the dismissed policemen acted in flagrant disregard and disobedience to senior Police officers present at the venue.
All six police officers are also to be prosecuted under the Electoral Act to serve as a deterrent to others.
