Governor NYESOM WIKE also threatened to remove such persons from the traditional stools they occupy in the various communities.
Governor WIKE also charged traditional rulers to speak up against what he described as a deliberate plot to deny the Rivers people representation at the National Assembly due to the delay in concluding pending rerun elections in the state.
Governor WIKE made the call while declaring open the 104th quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Traditional Council Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He said traditional rulers are expected to serve all members of their communities, adding that a traditional ruler who is an active member of a political party would not function in line with the expectations of all community residents.
Governor WIKE said the state government has decided to weed out all traditional rulers that are involved in active politics in the interest of the state and the communities that they are meant to serve.
Governor WIKE also assured the traditional rulers that the development drive of his administration would get to all the local government areas of the state.
On the delayed rerun elections; Governor WIKE noted that the nation enjoys the benefits of oil revenue from the state, but cites insecurity for what he described as perpetual postponement of the elections.
He also faulted the Rivers State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for seeking the withdrawal of a suit challenging the rerun election results for Tai Local Government Area.
A statement released by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, SIMEON NWAKAUDU also quoted the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers King DANDESON JAJA, calling on INEC to be fair in the conduct of elections in the state.
The Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom also called on Rivers youth to embrace the Amnesty Programme of the state government.
