Suspected Diphtheria Claims 23 Lives in Plateau

Twenty-three people have died from suspected diphtheria in Plateau State in the last two weeks, with 143 suspected cases recorded as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the spread of the infectious disease.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Baamlong, disclosed this in a telephone interview with Channels Television.

Baamlong said nine patients are currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Specialist Hospital.

The commissioner said the state government is intensifying measures to contain the spread of the disease and prevent further loss of lives.
