Cameroon Win Women’s AFCON Title for First Time

Cameroon have been crowned champions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating fairytale finalists Malawi 3-0 in the final in Rabat on Sunday.

Marie Ngah scored twice, while Naomi Eto added the third as the Indomitable Lionesses secured their first-ever Women’s AFCON title.

The victory marks a historic breakthrough for Cameroon, who had finished runners-up on three previous occasions.

Cameroon had initially failed to qualify for the tournament after losing home and away to Algeria in the final qualifying round.

However, the team received a second chance after organisers increased the number of participating teams from 12 to 16.

Cameroon went on to make the most of the opportunity, defeating Malawi in the final to emerge as queens of African women’s football for the first time.
