The Da Ogo Polo family of Buguma has installed Prince Tonye T.J.T. Princewill as the Da Abbiye-Ogo VI, Paramount Head of Da Ogo Polo, in a historic ceremony held at the Da Ogo Memorial Hall.
Prince Tonye, son of the late Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, His Serene Majesty King Prof. Theophilus J.T. Princewill, JP, CFR, Amachree XI, emerged as the popular choice of the chiefs and members of the family. Chief Akodu Harrison Princewill, acting head of the family, formally proclaimed him the new Polodabo, affirming the overwhelming support for his leadership.
The Da Ogo Polo leads the Elebabene group of houses, which has produced four of the seven kings of Kalabari Kingdom since the reign of King Kariboye-Abbi Benebo Princewill Amachree IV. With his installation, Prince Tonye becomes the sixth head of the Da Ogo Elebabene group of houses, succeeding his father who previously held the position before ascending the Kalabari throne.
The event was marked by jubilation among family members and guests. HRH Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, Amanyanabo of the Source, described the installation as a unifying moment, saying: “Finally, we have leadership the people of Da Ogo can rally around.”
In his acceptance remarks, Prince Tonye emphasized the values of unity, culture, and service, assuring that no individual is greater than the family. He expressed readiness to work with the Regent, commending his leadership and stressing the need for stability and development in the community.
