The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has commended the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers State and the restoration of democratic governance. The group also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the state’s prolonged political crisis.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Acting Chairman of the forum, Dr. Gabriel Toby, described the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the lawmakers as a rare opportunity to reset and rebuild Rivers State. He appealed to political stakeholders to put aside bitterness, embrace forgiveness, and work towards reconciliation.
Dr. Toby stressed that the state faces urgent challenges including unemployment, insecurity, infrastructural decay, and environmental degradation—that require collective effort and collaboration across party lines.
The elders further urged residents to remain calm, shun violence, and support lawful governance, noting that peace and stability are critical for progress.
