PRP Urges RSIEC to Ensure Credible LG Polls in Rivers, Warns Against Manipulation

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct a transparent and credible local government election scheduled for August 30, warning that anything less than a fair process would not be tolerated.

Chairman of the PRP in Rivers State, Nature Dumale Kieghe, made the call shortly after the party concluded its primary elections. He stressed that the PRP enjoys strong grassroots support across most local government areas in the state and vowed that the party would pursue legal redress if its chances were undermined before or after the polls.

Kieghe also revealed that the party took deliberate steps to ensure broad participation, despite the short notice for the election. He said nomination forms were sold at subsidized rates—₦10,000 for chairmanship aspirants and ₦5,000 for councillorship hopefuls—to encourage inclusiveness and reduce financial barriers for prospective candidates.

In a related development, PRP Secretary, Senkro Uchendu, who coordinated with RSIEC officials during the screening process, disclosed that consensus candidates emerged in 12 of the 14 local government areas where the party will field candidates.

The PRP emphasized its readiness for the elections and reiterated its commitment to upholding democratic principles across the state.
