Niger Delta activist Annkio Briggs has said the people of Rivers State are unhappy with the state of emergency imposed on the state by President Bola Tinubu, but are hopeful that the decision will lapse by its initial deadline of October 1.
Briggs made the remarks on Tuesday during a live television interview, where she expressed concern over the continued suspension of democratic governance in the state.
In March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State following a prolonged political crisis. The move led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Oduh, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
Briggs noted that while the situation has brought a measure of stability, Rivers people remain eager to see the return of constitutional governance and expect the federal government to honour the October deadline.
