The assurance was given during a meeting in Abuja between members of the Senate Committee on Navy and a delegation of naval officers led by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral IBOK IBAS EKWE.
Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator ISA MISSAU observed that there was need for improved funding for the Navy to adequately respond the increasing threats on Nigeria’s territorial waters and inland waterways.
Senator MISSAU was responding to complaint by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral IBOK IBAS EKWE of inadequate funding.
Admiral IBOK IBAS EKWE observed that the navy was facing challenges of logistics and insufficient equipment to effectively execute its responsibilities.
However; the Naval Chief said in spite the shortfall in funding, the Nigerian Navy has been able to record major achievements in the protection of the maritime environment in recent times.
