Health experts and stakeholders in the health sector have lauded the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RSCHPP) for its efforts in expanding universal health coverage in the state. The favorable evaluations were made during an organizational capacity assessment validation and dissemination workshop held in Port Harcourt.
In her welcome remarks, Acting Executive Secretary of the programme, Dr. Vetty Agala, highlighted that the assessment provided the agency with crucial insights into its strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. She stated that the findings would serve as a foundation for developing a work plan aimed at enhancing the agency’s capacity.
The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Comfort Igwe, emphasized the need for the agency to intensify its advocacy efforts to further promote health coverage in the state.
In his goodwill message, Chris Itod, the Rivers State Coordinator of the National Health Insurance Authority, commended the scheme for surpassing other state health insurance agencies, citing its impactful contributions to the health sector.
Our correspondent reports that the workshop, facilitated by private health insurance through funding from the Swedish International Development Agency Project Grant, aims to evaluate the performance of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme within its first year of operation. The positive feedback from health stakeholders marks a hopeful step towards achieving comprehensive health coverage for all residents of Rivers State.
