President of the United States, BARACK OBAMA, has sent a proposal on the close down of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba to Congress for approval.A breakdown of the US White House plan includes the transfer of thirty-five detainees to foreign countries and periodic reviews of the remaining detainees. It also provides for the continued use of legal tools to deal with remaining detainees, as well as working with Congress to establish a location in the US to hold detainees who will not go to foreign countries. The proposal has been one of President OBAMA’s long-standing goals, but it might face resistance from Congress because of objections to holding of terror suspects on US soil.President OBAMA hopes to save the US governor about four hundred and forty-five million dollars which goes into funding the detention facility annually.OBAMA also contends that the continued existence of the facility in Cuba undermined national security, stressing that the plan is about closing a chapter in US history.
