The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, IBIM SEMENITARI, has denied an allegation that she borrowed one billion naira while she was presiding over the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communication under the immediate-past administration. The denial was made against a purported statement by her successor, AUSTIN TAM-GEORGE, with SEMENITARI explaining that no commissioner had the authority to borrow money from banks. You will recall that SEMENITARI served as Commissioner under former governor, ROTIMI AMAECHI, from 2009 to 2015, before her appointment to the NDDC.According to a statement released by BEKEE ANYALEWECHI who is the Special Assistant on Media to the NDDC Managing Director, SEMINITARI described the allegation as a definite and unfortunate lie, stressing that it runs against financial guidelines and service rules for ministries to borrow directly from banks. The former commissioner recalled that there was no project in the Ministry of Information requiring government to borrow while she was serving the Rivers State government.
