Today Fm reports that trouble started when some delegates from the National secretariat of the NUJ, Abuja visited the Rivers State Secretariat to inaugurate a fourteen member caretaker committee for the Rivers State council to pilot the affairs of the council for the next three months.
The delegates who were with some members of a faction of the NUJ were resisted by members of rival faction, leading to free for all, before the intervention of police personnel deployed by the commissioner of Police Friday Eboka.
The delegation from Abuja later gathered in another location in Port Harcourt to Inaugurate a fourteen man CTC members headed by the chairman of correspondent chapel, Amaechi Okonkwo, while Justice Ihunwo of RSTV chapel is the secretary.
Speaking while inaugurating the Caretaker Committee members for the state council, a national trustee of the NUJ who led a three man delegation from the national secretariat, Angerse John, said the inauguration of the CTC members was in line with the provisions of article 5c,9c of the NUJ constitution.
In the meantime: Stanley Job who spoke on behalf of another faction of the NUJ distanced his group from what he termed an illegally constituted caretaker committee members by the National president of the union Chris Isiguzo.
