500 athletes in Jos for FISU games

 No fewer than 500 athletes from 50 universities across Nigeria are participating in the ongoing International University Sports Federation (FISU) in Jos.

Prof. Ishaya Pam, the Chairman of Sports Committee, University of Jos, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.

NAN reports that the FISU games, which are the trials ahead of the World Universities Games, slated for July in Germany.

The ongoing FISU games is being hosted by the university of Jos.

Pam said that the FISU games provides an avenue for the selection of qualified athletes, who would represent Nigeria at the world universities games.

“We are here for the FISU games, which are the trials ahead of the world universities games.

“As we speak, more than 500 athletes and officials from 50 universities are participating in this competition.

“They are competing in seven games – badminton, swimming, tennis, taekwondo, judo, track field and athletics,” he said

Pam said that the competition, which began on April 6, would end on April 12.

He explained that the exercise would no doubt promote local sports and boost the economy of Plateau.

He commended the state government for supporting the competition, particularly in the areas of logistics and funding.
