The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who stated this during an interview, explained that parties cannot receive financial support from foreign countries to sponsor their electioneering activities.
He said if such support is received, it is necessary to transfer such funds to the electoral commission.
Mahmood explained that all the registered political parties must disclose where they got their campaign funds and follow the rules set for spending money during the election campaign.
He added that the individual financial support also must not exceed the INEC approval.
The INEC Chairman, however, urged political parties and their candidates to comply with all the campaign guidelines as contravening them will attract sanctions.
