Argentine international, LIONEL MESSI has announced his resignation from international football.

MESSI’s announcement came after he missed a penalty shootout as Argentina lost in the final of the Copa America tournament, which marked a fourth major final loss in nine years.

MESSI said he had done all he could, but it appears that his time in the national team was over.

However; MESSI’s decision is not going down well with other teammate; as Argentina and Manchester United goalkeeper, SERGIO ROMERO is hoping that the Barcelona striker would reconsider the announcement.

ROMERO said he could not imagine the Argentine national team without MESSI, adding that the player may have spoken out of frustration of the team’s loss in the Copa final.

From the mood in the Argentine dressing room after the match, the goalkeeper said several players were evaluating the option of not continuing with the national team.

Chile defeated Argentina on penalties, after Sunday's match finished goalless in one hundred and twenty minutes.

MESSI's miss was Argentina's first attempt in the shootout and it ballooned over the bar after ROMERO had denied Chile's ARTURO VIDAL.
