The Rivers State Government appears to have resolved to replace members of the Joint Health Sector Union of Nigeria who have been on strike for over five weeks.
This followed a publication in a local tabloid calling for applications to fill vacancies created in government health institutions by the striking JOHESU members.
Following the development; the Rivers State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress entered into a meeting yesterday to review the development and decide on an appropriate intervention.
Our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the NLC and TUC leadership later resolved to hold a meeting today with the Commissioner of Health, Professor PRINCEWILL CHIKE.
Recall that we brought you a report last week indicating that the Rivers state government had redeployed community health workers to assist doctors in government hospitals in the absence of members of the Joint Health Sector Union.
