The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service has sealed the head office of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, over alleged tax evasion.

Our correspondent Uchendu Ejiowhor encountered members of the State Internal Revenue Service led by one Markson Ndibo who confirmed the development.

Ndibo alleged that the NDDC failed to remit tax to the state government since 2014, which he said adds up to about one point eight billion naira.

The official said they decided to embark on the operation having obtained a valid court order to seal off NDDC office.

He said the state government approached the court after NDDC officials declined to allow state revenue officials access necessary financial records of the commission.

However; the NDDC’s Deputy Director of Cooperate Affairs, Chijioke Amu-Nnadi faulted the claims by the revenue official, adding that the commission had commence payment of tax to the state government.
