Security has been placed on alert in Kaduna for the arraignment of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, at the State High Court in the metropolis.

The Kaduna State Police Command has warned members of the IMN, also known as Shiite sect in Nigeria, against holding street processions or protests.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Aliyu, warns that the police would deal decisively with any person or group of persons that attempt to violate the ban on unlawful assembly.

Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has already been in detention for more than two years, following his arrest in December 2015.

The Shiite leader was placed in what the government called protective custody following a confrontation between his supporters and the Nigerian Army in Zaria, which led to the death of scores of people.
