The main opposition challenger in Sierra Leone has won the first round of the country’s presidential election.

Results from the polls last week indicate that JULIUS MAADA BIO secured forty-three percent of the vote.

BIO is however short of the fifty-five percent of vote needed for an outright win, and he will now face SAMURA KAMARA of the ruling party in a run-off in two weeks time.

Reports from the capital, Freetown say heavily-armed soldiers and police were deployed around the city ahead of the announcement of the election results.
