Members of the Maritime Workers Union of

Nigeria have staged a protest across the

country to reject the move by the National

Assembly to amend the National Port

Authority Act.

The union members disrupted operations of

the NPA office at Port Harbour, as well as

the NPA office at Onne, in Eleme Local

Government Area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA

understands that the planned amendment of

NPA Act of 1995 intends to facilitate the

concession of harbour operations of the

Nigerian Ports Authority.

However; members of the Maritime Workers

Union of Nigeria are kicking against the

planned concession due to fear that it

would endanger their welfare.
