The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed an incident involving one of its helicopters taking part in the counterinsurgency operations in the North-East.

The NAF Agusta 109 Light Utility Helicopter suffered a mishap while undertaking a liaison mission targeted at further enhancing synergy between the air force and Nigerian Army.

The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Air Force, Air Commodore OLATOKUNBO ADESANYA disclosed in a statement that the incident happened yesterday as a result of an airborne technical fault.

Air Commodore ADESANYA said the experienced NAF pilots successfully ditched the helicopter into a pool of water to minimize damage and loss of lives.

The NAF spokesman said there were no casualties among those on board or on the ground where the incident happened.

He said the Chief of the Air Staff has directed the constitution of a board of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incidence.

The statement also disclosed that members of the board of inquiry are already in Maiduguri to commence work, while efforts are ongoing to recover the helicopter.
