Police in New York have detained a man who rammed his car on pedestrians along three blocks of pavement in Times Square, killing a teenager and injuring twenty-two people.

The suspected has been identified as twenty-six-year-old RICHARD ROJAS; a US navy veteran who was arrested twice previously for drunk driving.

Reports say after being arrested, ROJAS told the police that they were supposed to shoot him, because he wanted to kill them.

ROJAS has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated vehicular homicide and multiple counts of attempted murder.

He is expected to appear in court later on today.
