Police to deploy 20,000 officers ahead Rivers legistlative rerun.

The Police High Command has approved the deployment of twenty-five thousand personnel for the rescheduled rerun elections in Rivers State on 10th December.

This was made known by the Inspector General of Police, IDRIS ABUBAKAR, through the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, FRANCIS ODESANYA.

Addressing a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt ahead of the elections; C.P ODESANYA said the deployment includes conventional officers, as well as personnel of the Mobile Police, Marine Police, Police Air Wing and other tactical units. 

The Police Commissioner said the massive policing of the elections on Saturday is meant to prevent a breakdown of order before, during and after the polls.

He warned that the Police will not hesitate to clampdown on any individual found with arms. 

The Commissioner of Police also said security operatives attached to politicians and VIPS in Rivers State are to be withdrawn on the eve of the election.

The Rivers State Police Commissioner promised to ensure strict adherence to the provisions of the electoral laws of the country.
